Cathcing up

Tuesday June 23, 2009
I am going to try and catch up our blog. I wanted to do this from our first trip this year but didn't have internet access on the road.

During our spring break we headed to Amish Country (Holmes County) Ohio. Our first stop was in WV at New River Park in Beckley. We stayed there Friday and Saturday nights and went to church at Harper Heights Missionary Baptist Church on Easter Sunday. We surprised our family when we walked in. This was the first time they had seen Don since his accident. We left there on Sunday afternoon and headed to Ohio. We arrived in Holmes County in the late afternoon but because it was Sunday and early spring many campgrounds were closed. We ended up staying at the Wal-Mart in Millersburg, OH that night. We had no phone service and no computer service. It was very cold, down into the 30's and the Canada chill was just as I remember it. We found a campground just before lunch and was set up by the middle of the afternoon. It was cold and raining which continued until Thursday. It finally cleared up and warmed up. Not much went on with the Amish that week because of the weather I would think. On Friday, we went into Union Town to visit Our friends Kenny & Dixie and their children. Dixie, Don and I went over to finish helping Pat and Dixie's mother-in-law decorate the fellowship hall for Dixie's dad's retirement party. We went out to eat Friday night and back to Dixie's house and we were up late going through pictures to use for the party. Don and I left and drove back to Berlin to the campground. We got up early Saturday and headed back to Akron for the party. We had a great time there and our mutual friends from KY came in that morning. After the party we went over the Chuck and Pat's (Dixie's parents) for music and visiting and of course more eating. We stayed til about 9:00 and Don and I headed back to Berlin with plans to hook up in Mansfield to go Sonja's (Dixie's sister) for lunch. Chuck and Herman picked us up (at Wal-Mart) and took us to Sonja's. We had a great lunch but it was way to short as Don and I had to head back home to NC because I had to be at work Monday morning.

On May 15th we headed up to Green Mountain for a little stay that included Memorial Day. I was only able to come up on the weekends but really enjoyed our stay there. Don stayed up there the entire time except for coming home for PT and doctor appointments. We touched base with some old friends from our camping days there some years ago. We attended the Sunday church services in the Great Hall each Sunday we were there. All the kids came up the first two weekends as well. We left on Memorial day. Don headed back up there on June 5th, this time for a full two week stay. Kristi didn't come at all this time and Donnie Lee only came once. We left there on Friday June 19th.

Which brings me to our location now. We left Green Mtn and headed to KY. We got here about 4:30 in the afternoon. We were just in time to go to church with our friends Sue & Herman for a singing at Borders Chapel. Now for a little history on Border's Chapel. This is a distant relative of ours. My 5th great grandmother was Jenny Wiley and her sister married a Borders. This church has connections to that family. I enjoyed looking at the old building and imagining what services were like there when the church was built so many years ago (1800's if I am not mistaken). I had my picture made in front of the church and was even privileged to sing there with my friend Herman.

On Saturday Sue and Herman had a meeting to attend in Williamson so we went along and they dropped us off at the mall. After the meeting, Jerry (Sue and Herman's son) and Charlene and their family went with us out to eat at El Azul's Mexican Restaurant. We had a great time. We came home and I walked a little that night by myself.

We got up early Sunday morning and went to Milton, WV to a flea market there that we enjoy going to. We ate breakfast at Hardee's and the weather was perfect that morning. It has been extremely hot here. We finished up at the flea market around noon and headed to another Primitive store in Milton. The home had been turned into a store and was the home of the man that founded Milton, WV. We then headed to Wendy's for lunch. After lunch we headed back to KY to prepare for the Father's day cook out. Jerry and his kids, Brad (Sue and Herman's other son) & Angela and their kids, Herman's sister and her family all came over for a cookout. We had a great time. Just as it was getting dark a couple of deer came out of the woods and we followed them by sight and taking pictures around the ridge behind Sue and Herman's house. After everyone left Sue and I walked again, this time a little further than I had walked the night before.

Monday we slept in. Herman had a military funeral to attend so Don, Sue and I headed to Williamson to Wal-Mart. We needed to pick up some things for Sue's new bathroom. We ate lunch at Taco Bell. When we got home, Herman was here and working on the new room. He finished painting it just before 7:30 and we had supper - fried potatoes, beans, cornbread and salad. It was late when we finished up with supper so we sat on the front porch for a while. Again a couple of deer came out just as it was getting dark. Sue and I walked again and we walked a little further than we did the night before.
